Suppose if you want to
install Windows 8 but don’t want to give up Windows 7. Here’s how to
dual boot Windows 8 with your current Windows 7 installation so you can
run them both side by side. All you need to do is create a new partition
for Windows 8, install it on that partition, and then edit your new
boot menu so that you can choose which OS should be default. For that you
have to follow below steps.
1.Create partition for Windows 8 installation along with Windows 7
As you can see in my disk management,I have 500 GB that is configured with a 100 GB partition on which windows 7 is installed and other two partitions. Now i need to make a new partition for windows 8.
Now you choose one of the data partition, which you want to compress and make sure that it should have enough free space. Then right click on that partition choose shrink volume. Then new window open.
Then enter amount of space to shrink and click shrink button. It will create new unallocated disk.
Now right click on that volume and select new simple volume. It will create new partition.
2.Install Windows 8
Now insert Windows 8 installation CD or Pendrive to your computer. And restart your computer it will automatically start installation of Windows 8.
Make sure that you have to choose installation type custom. And you should choose correct partition to install Windows 8.After completion of installation of Windows 8 your computer will reboot into Windows 8.
3.Making Windows 7 or 8 default
The first one in the boot menu will be the default, meaning if you don’t manually choose from the menu, your computer will boot into first one after three seconds of inactivity.
If you don’t want to make first one as default, on the boot menu, click on the button at the bottom that says “Change Defaults or Choose Other Options”, and hit “Choose the Default Operating System”.
