How to Remove an old OS from Boot Menu - SearchforSolutionsOnline

When I upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7, I had a second drive around and set it to dual boot.
How to remove an old OS from the boot menu
After a while, I decided that I wasn’t ever going to go back to Windows XP, and so I deleted the windows directory on that drive. For that go to C:/Windows directory and then delete old folder.
But I can’t remove Windows XP from the boot menu.To solve this problem follow these steps 1.Click Start button, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2.On the Advanced tab, under Startup and Recovery, click Settings. The Startup and Recovery dialog box appears.
3.Under System startup, click Edit to modify the Boot.ini file.Open it in notepad.
4.Now Save this file for back up as Boot.old.Then close it.
5.In the Startup and Recovery dialog box, under System startup, click Edit to reopen the Boot.ini file.
6.In boot loader section of Boot.ini file identify and then delete the line of text for the Windows operating system that you want to remove. For example if you want to remove windows xp home edition, then you will see a line like this
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS.0=”Microsoft Windows XP Home”
/fastdetect

7.After deleting it,save the file and close it.
8.Now click ok and close Startup and Recovery dialog box.
9.Now restart your computer.
That’s it.
